Jessy Lanza – jessylanza.com
Jessy Lanza released one of the catchiest, lushest, most beautiful albums of 2016, and we can’t wait for the Steel City singer/producer to return to Guelph. Mixing footwork with Detroit House, ‘90s dance and R&B, Lanza is joined by her co-producer Jeremy Greenspan (Junior Boys), to perfectly match powerful vocals with an inventive mash-up of contemporary and throwback electronic production. The world agrees that it doesn’t get any better than Jessy Lanza.
Han Han w/ HATAW – hanhan.bandcamp.com
Han Han makes music like you’ve never heard before. Rapping in her native Tagalog and Cebuano languages and accompanied by HATAW dancers that will blow your mind, Han Han mixes contemporary rap production with elements of traditional Filipino music. An amazing talent on the mic, this nurse-by-day-rapper-by-night drew the world’s attention with her culture-mashing, minimalist, mind-melting video for “World Gong Crazy”. We can’t wait for Guelph to go crazy for her at Kazoo! Fest.
Softside – softsidesongs.bandcamp.com
Softside (FKA Ferne) is the brainchild of Guelph’s Ian Bain. With smooth synth tones and waves of reverb drenched guitars, their debut single, ‘Over’, channels the warped R&B sound of Homeshake with a sprinkle of American Football. With their debut EP, Lower Hands, dropping this past February, the full live band consists of Bain alongside Dan Loughrin, Jake Cadieux and Adrien Willem. Softside is one of Guelph’s new gems: Polished and ready.
