L CON (CA) is the ever-evolving avant-pop project of Toronto-based songwriter / producer / composer / sonic adventurer Lisa Conway. Her recordings have been described as “ethereal, minimalist, experimental, unnerving…and downright elegant” (AUX), with the Toronto Star claiming, “Conway is bound for greatness, even if she doesn’t realize it yet.”
Raised in the mountains of Northern BC, Lisa has been quietly producing, recording, and releasing music under various monikers for over a decade – she’s collaborated with filmmakers, dancers, and performance artists, and completed creative residencies from New Brunswick, Canada, to Aubagne, France. One of two Canadians selected to be part of the renowned Red Bull Music Academy this October in Berlin, her work both in live performance and in the studio has garnered critical acclaim. Lisa has been compared to Feist, Beth Gibbons, Laurie Anderson, Bjork, P.J. Harvey, Roisin Murphy, Sóley, Fiona Apple, and My Brightest Diamond, but her songs truly reside in a world of their own.
“Conway, who holds both Canadian and Swiss citizenship, has composed music for performance artists, filmmakers and dancers, but it’s her solo work that expresses a vital, singular worldview and establishes her as a compelling artist to watch. Conway will layer seemingly disparate component parts – a violin, sinewy drum programming – highlighting the rhythmic or emotional threads that connect the whole. She also has the vocal chops to carry raw, minimal piano ballads; her work is engrossing, the kind of music that dims all the outside world’s white noise. ”
