Miranda Journey is an indie freak folk singer/songwriter currently living in Nottawa, ON.
Growing up in a musical family, Miranda had been inspired to pursue the arts her entire life. She began singing, songwriting and performing at the age of eight, and was self-taught with her ukulele playing.
In summer 2016, Miranda decided to dedicate and invest her time into pursuing a musical career. She began busking, gigging, and partaking in musical projects and collaborations with other local musicians, hoping to expand her knowledge of the music world and grow as a performer and artist. After playing in folk trio ‘Streetlight Magic’ with Shawn Fisher (violinist and vocalist) and James Stephens (Guitarist and vocalist) for the duration of summer 2016, and then pursuing folk duo, ‘Auburn Falling’ with James Stephens from fall 2016 – spring 2018, Miranda decided to put her main focus back into her individual projects.
Since then, Miranda released her first Acoustic EP and is currently in the works of making a full-length album. Alongside with writing and recording, she has been very busy over the last few years performing in various venues such as: The Huron Club, Bruce Wine Bar, Simcoe Street Theatre, Gibson and Company, Mad Dogs Vinyl Cafe, MJ Byrnes Irish Pub, The Gayety Theatre, Make Waves Markets, Collingwood Local Live Lunch, The Port Music Festival, and many more bars, breweries, restaurants, private events, and fundraisers. She had hosted the August 2018 residency at The Crow Bar and Variety and recently won a spot in the Youth Discoveries Competition, where she will be performing in Summerfolk Festival 2019, taking place in Owen Sound.
With major influences like Florence Welch, Angel Olsen, Regina Spektor, and Liza Anne, Miranda’s signature vocals and heartfelt, lyrically-driven songs leave the audience captivated and wanting more. She continues to explore new ways to incorporate and infuse throwback sounds and traditional folk with new experimental sounds. Considering herself to be “New Retro”, Miranda strives to stay authentic to her sound, but never put limitations on what she can create or evolve to. Expanding her fanbase through her quirky performances and relatable songs, Miranda follows wherever opportunity leads her.
