    Valet Christmas @manhattans
Valet is a Guelph-based jazz quartet, that consists of 4 students from Centennial CVI. The group features Jakob Durst on tenor saxophone, Tristan Culbert on piano, Josh Collesso on bass, and Andrew Schoettler on drums. Valet came into formation after the group performed as part of a school function, where they quickly gathered a crowd of engaged students, teachers and parents. After the event was over, the four young musicians were ecstatic to continue playing with one another, and thus Valet was formed. Under the guidance of some of Guelph’s finest musicians, Valet hopes to create interest in the vibrant jazz music of the past Century. The group plays with an excitement that brings a refreshing energy to the music, while still paying tribute the greats. Their performance features music from a variety of genres, such as Swing, Latin, Soul, and Be-Bop. After much preparation, Valet is thrilled to make their performance debut at Manhattans!

Jakob Durst (Tenor Saxophone) – Jakob Durst, age 16, is an avid young jazz musician. He studies privately with Brent Rowan, and holds a chair in the prestigious Hamilton All-Star Jazz Band. Jakob has also had the honor to play with some of Canada’s best jazz musicians, such as Mike Murley, Dave Restivio, Jason Louge, Tara Davidson, Paul Stevenson, and Kevin Turcotte.

Tristan Culbert (Piano) – Tristan Culbert is an aspiring young orchestral percussionist. He is the principal percussionist in the Guelph Youth Symphony Orchestra, and he also plays percussion in the Guelph Concert Band, Kitchener-Waterloo Youth Concert Band, and has had the opportunity to play multiple concerts with the Guelph Symphony Orchestra. Tristan started learning classical piano from his father at age 4 and later began playing piano in various jazz ensembles in high school under the direction of Jeff Daniels.

Joshua Collesso (Bass) – Joshua Collesso is a bass player in the Guelph Youth Jazz Ensemble. He has also played in a range of venues including the Guelph I Heart Beer Fest, Kitchener Ribfest, and Hillside.

Andrew Schoettler (Drums) – Andrew Schoettler is an experienced Jazz, Latin and Funk drummer. He began drumming at the age of 7 and currently studies with none other than Guelph’s very own Nick Macerollo. He has played at Hillside Festival and also plays for the various jazz bands within Centennial CVI, directed by Jeff Daniels, including their Symphonic Winds ensemble, which has been invited to MusicFest Canada Nationals in Ottawa this year.
