Anthony Shmanthony (often billed with his Off-Brand Goodtime Band OBGB) is a Guelph-based songwriter/performer moonlighting as a researcher of American literature at the University of Guelph. He writes, sings, plays the guitar, tenor and five string banjo. Some know him for his trumpet imitations. He is often joined by Big Tim Kramer on the upright bass.
His music draws from country, ragtime, jazz-blues and rockabilly in a determined effort to create songs that are both rhythmically and lyrically engaging. Live shows are always punctuated with sardonic, fun songs about drinking, murder and melancholy with a few forays into slow, lonesome country and jazz ballads for the criers out there.
Anthony has a history of also playing zany, frenetic punk songs with his boneheaded friends in The Namedroppers. They occasionally play reunion shows.
Anthony has not released a solo recording since 2013. It is coming soon. Promises promises.
