AN EVENING WITH BOBBY BAZINI
With over a decade of success in the music industry, including multiple JUNO and ADISQ Award nominations, Platinum records, tens of millions of streams and sold-out shows, Bobby Bazini is enjoying a creative renaissance and a triumphant return. In 2010, Bobby introduced himself to the music industry with his breakout full-length debut Better In Time, reaching # 4 on the Top Albums Chart in Canada. The album was certified Platinum and yielded two 2011 JUNO Award nominations (Pop Album of the Year, New Artist of the Year). His follow-up Where I Belong debuted at #1 on the Canadian Top Albums Chart, also achieving Platinum status as the best-selling Canadian album of 2014. That same year he made an unforgettable appearance at the Montreal International Jazz Festival, a celebration of his success to date. In 2016, Bazini shared Summer Is Gone, debuting at #2 on the Top Albums Chart and including the song “C’est La Vie” which has amassed over 10M collective streams to date. He later went on to release his fourth and fifth albums, Move Away and Pearl. The latter, a unique concept-collection collaboration with producer Connor Seidel (1969 Collective, Charlotte Cardin, Les sœurs Boulay) at the Tree House Studio, marked a musical renaissance for the singer-songwriter. In addition to critical acclaim, the musical direction of Pearl attracted many new fans all over the world, including the likes of Huey Morgan from The Fun Lovin’ Criminals, famous English jazz musician Jamie Cullum, Nic Harcourt of KCRW, and legendary DJ Gilles Peterson, who was so taken by “Waterfallin'” he made a remix released earlier this year; the original version was also listed among BBC Radio 6’s best songs of 2023. Initially, fifteen songs were composed and recorded for the Pearl sessions. After numerous walks in the forest listening to those tracks, 11 were selected for the album, while the other four were chosen to be on the EP Stone of June the epilogue to Pearl — a story told in two parts. Musically, these four tracks are more stripped back than their sisters from Pearl. Recorded in a few takes at the beginning of spring, they benefit from a lightness, perhaps thanks to the fresh air, bird songs, and wind rustling through the trees. The four musicians, Bobby on vocals and classical guitar, Connor Seidel on bass, Robbie Kuster (Daniel Bélanger, Patrick Watson) on drums, and Conner Molander (Half Moon Run) on piano, recorded together fully trusting this inspiring environment and the power of music.
