Fat Tony //
fattonyrap.bandcamp.com
Fat Tony is one of the best hip hop artists in the game. With a handful of killer albums, singles and features on tracks by hip hop titans like A$AP Rocky and Das Racist, Fat Tony has maintained a creative resilience and unbridled enthusiasm over the past decade. With his lyrical prowess, unique sense of humor, courage, and experimentation, Fat Tony’s music is like nothing else. Since the release of his latest album, the incredible conceptual “Exotica” in 2021, Fat Tony has been gaining more much-deserved attention. His live show is incredible, and he’s not to be missed.
Status/Non-Status //
statusnonstatus.bandcamp.com
Status/Non-Status FKA (formerly known as Whoop-SZO) make music that faces personal and generational trauma head on with a focus on taking back spaces. Whether it’s through their intimate acoustic serenades or full fledged gnarly guitar assaults a la Eric’s Trip or Elevator, these songs tell important stories with important sounds. Fronted by Anishinaabe community worker, Adam Sturgeon, Status/Non-Status brings us music and a message we all need to hear. If they are not already, Status/Non-Status are FKA (futurely known as) your favourite band.
Jane Inc //
janeinc.bandcamp.com
Carlyn Bezic is no stranger to Kazoo! Fest, having played in Ice Cream, US Girls, and Darlene Shrugg, but this is the first time Guelph will be blessed by Bezic’s new project, Jane Inc. Touching on many dance-related subgenres, Jane Inc. brings fresh air and experimentation to electro disco post punk. Jane Inc. is getting a lot of hype and it deserves every bit of it. Do your stretches before, so you’re ready to dance the night away.
SHEBAD //
shebadmusic.bandcamp.com
Self-described as a “newly birthed celebration of sound and life”, SHEBAD was dreamt up by Claire Voy and Mark Spagnolo and has been further fleshed out by some of the best young musicians around. If you mix Erykah Badu, Bernice and Fet.Nat in a blender, you might come close to SHEBAD’s sound. One thing is for sure though, this is a band in charge of their own sound and charting their own path. Smart, calculated, and fun – the future of Guelph music has hope, cronies.

Gin Ebony (she/they) is a Canadian DJ, dancer, broadcaster, musician and a sonic curator known for her weekly electronic showcase, STEP 01, on n10.as radio in Montreal. In 2013, she relocated from Toronto to pursue integration within the underground dance music community of Detroit, sparking her career as a DJ and radio journalist. A Guelph expat, we have been watching their work get better and more inspiring over the years and we couldn’t be happier to bring them back to Guelph.
