I’ve been to some jazz jams that have been geared towards real beginners. That’s cool, there’s definitely a place for that but there’s also kind of a ceiling to it and sometimes it discourages more experienced players. And some times jazz jams can be super intimidating with a lot of ego flexing. That has it’s place too, it’s almost baked into the culture of the music. But it can also be a real vibe killer. So I’m hoping this can have the best of both worlds where people who are maybe less confident can feel welcome and have a chance to play, but also make time and space for more experienced players (the “badass m@therf@ckers” in jazz parlance) to flex what they’ve got too. I would love it if both of those things and all points in between could co-exist. But nothing happens without people, so come on out and let’s make it happen!
