Juno award-winning quintet Esmerine will be releasing a new album in October 2015 (via Constellation)!
Esmerine was co-founded by percussionist Bruce Cawdron (Godpseed You! Black Emperor) and cellist Rebecca Foon (Thee Silver Mt. Zion, Saltland) in 2001 and have released four critically-acclaimed albums of minimalist, expressive modern chamber music – with one foot in the new music/experimental terrain of groups like Town And Country or
Rachel’s and the other in a more visceral and lyrical instrumental
landscape as cultivated by the likes of The Dirty Three and Godspeed
themselves.
The ensemble’s previous record, Dalmak (released in autumn 2013), received glowing reviews and was awarded the 2014 Juno for Instrumental Album Of The Year.
Esmerine’s appearance at FME 2013 was one of the most talked-about shows from that year’s festival; other recent and notable Canadian engagements include a command performance at the 2012 Festival de musique actuelle de Victoriaville and 2 nights at the 2014 Montreal Jazz Festival (in collaboration with the Musee d’art contemporain de Montreal).
The forthcoming album brings together all of the stylistic strands of the band and propels Esmerine’s signature sound and instrumentation into new realms of highly dynamic and wholly distinctive modern chamber rock.
