Lazersuzan’s members are a combination of veterans and relative newcomers to Toronto’s music scene: Pianist Steve Koven has been leading a trio for nearly 25 years (and recently released a solo record), and acclaimed mutli-instrumentalist Pierre Mongeon is a fixture on the improvised scene.

Grounded in a strong sense of both rhythm and groove and the deep musical comfort that comes from years of playing music together and combining that comfort with a healthy respect for (and skills in) songcraft, the band challenges preconceived ideas of ‘improvised music’: Lazersuzan performances maintain the energy and excitement of spontaneous creation while remaining planted firmly in territory familiar to live music audiences expecting ‘tunes’. Above all, Lazersuzan is committed to making our musical explorations as fun as possible — for players and listeners alike — as well as venturing beyond the stage for sights and sounds to accompany our musical adventures.
Boiler Room Quartet is: Pierre Mongeon on trumpet, Bob Vespaziani on Wave Drum, Tena Palmer on voice and is headed by Al Mattes who is a multi-instrumentalist playing acoustic and electric bass, guitar and guitar synthesizer and keyboard synthesizer. He is a founding member of the CCMC, a founding Director of the Music Gallery and a founding member of the Canadian Electroacoustic Community (CEC).
