Come turn the season with us and take in some heartmoving music by Valmy, a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based on the East Coast, and Midswim, the project of Claire Whitehead, a musician based in Guelph ON. đâ¨
The event will feature music that explores themes of wonder, loss, and healing, and will be held at the Cornerstone. Admission is pay-what-you-can, with a recommended donation of $15
Valmy is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Ontario whoâs been following the ocean and making home on the East Coast. Exploring themes of wonder, loss, and healing, she uses her folk-influenced music to tell stories about loving and stumbling your way through the dark. Now based in St. Johnâs, Newfoundland, Valmy creates and performs by weaving nature-inspired melodic swells and atmospheric harmonies with her contemplative writing. Her debut full-length album âThe In Betweenâ was independently released in September 2023 and warmly received listeners, with a thoughtful review from Tony Ploughman of Fredâs Records: âThe rhythms and melodies wrap around the mind and soul like a lovingly patched quiltâŚThere is a cohesiveness to this full album offering meditative musings on balancing ones own mental state in harmony with nature, the songs providing a methodical process to achieve that balance. And the underlying intensity to follow through on the beckoning of oneâs thoughts and emotions to create is constantâŚDeftly produced, engineered and mixed, âThe In Betweenâ is one of 2023âs finest NL Releasesâ. This collection of songs was given new life with Valmyâs arrangements and the performances of her esteemed bandmates. She concluded 2023 with two MusicNL nominations, was a 2024 East Coast Music Award nominee, and was nominated for three 2024 MusicNL awards for Alternative Artist, Solo Artist, and Ron Hynes Songwriter of the Year. She is excited to be connecting with audiences during this solo tour in support of âThe In Between’, and to be returning to her first university town of Guelph.

Midswim is the project of Claire Whitehead, a musician based in Guelph ON, who has been collaborating and touring with bands (Forest City Lovers, Blimp Rock, Kelly McMichael) for the past 15 years. Whitehead writes lyrical and melody-driven songs on guitar, occasionally using the violin to create a background of atmospheric loops. Her songs provide a safe harbour for longing, loneliness and reflection and have been described by listeners as âelementalâ and âaliveâ.
