SUMMARY:No Name Birthday Band
DESCRIPTION:No Name Birthday Band plays at Red Papaya at 2 p.m. on Saturday January 25th. All ages. \nNo Name Birthday Band is a collection of Guelph musicians playing dark country grooves mixed with a spattering of folk rock and 60’s psych. The harmonies and laidback instrumentation would have these fellas comfortably fitting in the Laurel Canyon scene of the late 60’s and early 70’s. Pete Spring and Brad Giefert hold down vocals and guitar\, Michael Overton on bass\, and Darryl Stevenson on drums and backing vocals.

SUMMARY:“6 Bands for 4 Bucks” For Mel
DESCRIPTION:“6 Bands for 4 Bucks” – A Community Gathering and Fundraiser in Honour of Melanie Archibald. \nSaturday\, January 25\, Guelph Farmers’ Market\, $4 (additional donations strongly encouaged!) \nDoors: 6:30pm\, Music starts 7:00pm sharp. \nPlease join us to gather and honour Melanie’s memory for a night of some of her favourite things. Mel once joked that she wanted “6 Bands for 4 Bucks” at her funeral\, so we are honouring that wish. In addition to delicious nibbles\, dancing\, community vibes\, and a silent auction\, we will enjoy music from (yes it’s more than 6 bands but we couldnt’ say no to some of Mel’s faves and pals!): \nJim Guthrie\nThe Magic\nScott Nightengale\nNoah 23\nNathan Lawr\nJessy Bell Smith\nAaron Riswick\nStuart Gunn \nAll funds raised will go to support Sanguen Health Centre\, a crucial program in Guelph and Waterloo which aims to raise awareness of harm reduction\, combat stigma\, and minimize the impact that marginalization has on vulnerable communities. \nFor the Silent Auction\, we are looking for donations of goods and services to help make this fundraiser a success. Melanie was passionate about community care and advocacy\, and all donations will be made in her name. We would love to include whatever you can offer! Contact Nathan Lawr (nathan.lawr@gmail.com) or Claire Coulter (clairecoulter@gmail.com) to donate. \nLastly\, we are hoping to add a few friends to our crew who share in Mel’s love of good food to assist in preparing and setting up a spread. Contact Nate or Claire if you are able to help out. \nPlease note this will be a DRY evening. A selection on non-alcoholic beverages will be available\, but please don’t drink before or during attendance.

SUMMARY:Cancer Bats with Ethereal Tomb and mile end
DESCRIPTION:With 17 years under their belt\, including seven acclaimed studio albums\, five JUNO Award nominations and countless tours around the globe\, Cancer Bats have become an undeniable force within the world of heavy music. One of the hardest working bands in the industry\, Cancer Bats have graced the covers and pages of countless taste-making publications including Kerrang!\, Exclaim!\, Revolver and Rock Sound. The year 2022 saw the band at the top of their musical game releasing Psychic Jailbreak to rave reviews from die hard fans critics alike. With Cancer Bats playing some of the biggest stages they have to date\, theyre proving time and time again that these party metal anthems are here to stay! LONG LIVE THE BATS! \nInstagram | Facebook | Spotify | Apple Music \n• \nFounded in 2021\, Canadian doom disciples Ethereal Tomb have been firing on all cylinders since 2021\, releasing a self-titled record and a split EP whilst clawing their way through Canada’s metal scene (the Barrie/Tkaronto trio self-identify as playing Turtle Island Street Metal but have elsewhere been hailed as “Landback Hardcore”). Their 2023 album When The Rivers Dry – mastered by Joel Grind of Toxic Holocaust – melds Indigenous fury with crushing riffs that echo in the night. They returned in late March 2024 with the crushing Life Beyond Oppressor’s Brutality EP. \nInstagram | Facebook | Spotify | Apple Music \n• \nMile End is a band on a mission to put Brampton — and their friends — on the musical map. Formed in 2017 by a group of close friends\, the band spent the next few years honing their sound\, eventually solidifying their identity with support from Brampton’s creative community. Their debut LP is a testament to staying true to their roots\, resisting trends\, and refining their craft through local connections. With eight hard-hitting\, dynamic tracks\, the record captures the raw energy of ’90s hardcore bands like 108 and Threadbare\, balanced with a modern edge. Each song reflects their surroundings and a vision to build a worldwide hardcore community. \nInstagram | Facebook | Spotify | Apple Music
