DESCRIPTION:The Beelays Trio has been performing actively around the GTA for the last 15 years. The members include Chris Bruder on vocals and piano\, Tom Altobelli on bass\, and Jordan Snider on drums. Originally from Hamilton\, they all met through the Mohawk College music program in 2008\, and have been longtime friends\, ever since. Known for their original adaptations of music from bands like the Beatles and other classic rock bands\, their unique approach to jazzifying pop tunes has seen the world. The group actively works on cruise ships and has 2 world cruises under their belt. They have been to every continent and perform at local venues at home.

SUMMARY:Tia Brazda
DESCRIPTION:One of Canada’s most recognizable voices in jazz\, Tia Brazda’s jazz-pop gems and retro style have established her as a unique presence on the jazz scene\, both at home and abroad. Not only a singer\, but a songwriter as well\, Brazda has performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival\, main stage at the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal\, as well as toured many times across North America and Europe\, from intimate supper clubs to large outdoor festivals. Her music has been described as a “hip pastiche” and a “walking catalogue of 20th century jazz styles”. Her first single “Cabin Fever” broke through in 2012 and she followed that up with the 2015 full-length Bandshell\, named as one of the best of the decade in the Italian press and one of the best of the year by Jazz FM 91 in Toronto. Her 2018 release ‘Daydream’ saw her exploring new grooves such as bossa nova\, soul and tango. Her new album WHEN I GET LOW out May 27th\, finds her delving into the past\, interpreting well-known classics from the Great American Songbook and making them her own. \nStu Harrison \nStu Harrison attended the University of Toronto’s Jazz Performance program\, graduating with Honours in 2003. It was then that he also started Stu Harrison Music\, a commercial and wedding music company that worked extensively throughout Ontario\, supplying music to a wide variety of high-profile clientele. During the same period\, he was also Music Director and Composer for Garden Brothers Circus\, performing more than 1000 shows to well over 2 million people. In 2006 he joined Merriam Music\, the largest private music school in Canada as well as its highest volume piano dealer\, and took on a variety of roles\, including teaching\, retailing\, curriculum development\, marketing\, and eventually to the executive level where he serves as head of Sales\, Marketing\, and Strategic Development. In October 2016\, Stu released his debut album “Volume 1” (One Nightstand Records)\, to critical acclaim\, featuring Canadian legends Terry Clarke\, and Neil Swainson. Stu continues to perform\, accompany\, MD\, and arrange regularly throughout Canada.

DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT! \nIf there’s one rule people should follow when approaching The Dirty Nil\, it’s this: Never tell them how to rock ‘n’ roll. Ontario’s Juno Award-winning trio is a finely tuned rock machine that is at its best when the members are pursuing their penchant for thrashy riffs\, bashed out drums\, and levels-to-the-max volume. And on their fourth album\, Free Rein to Passions\, the band followed their instincts down to the note to produce their most authentic work to date. The Nil’s back-to-basics approach was a direct reaction to their previous record\, 2021’s Fuck Art\, a creative process that brought too many industry people whispering in the band’s ears\, telling them how to polish and tweak their songs to fit on the radio or streaming playlists or whatever other arbitrary whims the modern music machine demands. In order to incinerate their apparatus\, they had to destroy it completely. They jammed away in their practice space for weeks\, not overthinking anything or taking any external input. They didn’t sweat the small details or fret over transitions and arrangements. Less second guessing\, more reckless abandon. Staring into the abyss of entertainment serfdom\, the trio spat on it. They smashed the chalice of poison brought to their lips\, grinding the shards under their heels. A rock and roll band is part religion\, part small business and part pirate ship. SUMMARY:Silence Presents: Triio Tour ft The Imaginary Percussion Ensemble

The Imaginary Percussion Ensemble (Germaine Liu\, Joe Sorbara\, Mark Zurawinski) \nEstablished in 2012 by bassist and composer Alex Fournier\, Triio has grown from a quartet featuring local canadian composers and modern jazz to a sextet featuring cinematic compositions that focus on the interplay and mutual influence shared between written music and free/collective improvisation. Contrasting intricate written sections with open ended improvisation\, the music allows  for total freedom of expression while still maintaining a distinct direction from piece to piece\, with the goal of continuously creating a living score that is always open to the moment. \nThis concert will feature music from Triio’s second album\, Six-ish Plateaus\, plus music from their previous self-titled release.\nBea Labikova – Alto/Soprano Saxophone\nNaomi McCarroll-Butler – Clarinet/Bass Clarinet\, Alto Saxophone\nTom Fleming – Guitar\nMichael Davidson – Vibraphone\nStefan Hegerat – Drums\nAlex Fournier – Double Bass/Compositions \nThe Imaginary Percussion Ensemble is a chameleon-like entity that grows and sheds limbs; changes colouration\, shape\, and configuration; and otherwise adapts to the creative possibilities dreamed up by three creative percussionists—Germaine Liu\, Joe Sorbara\, and Mark Zurawinski—who come together to share in one another’s dedicated\, joyous\, and seriously playful curiosity around sound-making and performance. Instigated by Liu\, the ensemble’s music is rooted in a deep concern for gesture\, for physicality\, for tactility. They are invested in performance as visceral exploration and co-creation\, performance as an ongoing process of (re)discovering ideas and vocabulary\, always in the hope of creating an inviting and inclusive space for audience and participants. For this opening set at Silence\, the trio will perform on three drum sets.
