Music Lives!

Preview: Kent MacMillan’s Busy Weekend

Local musician Kent McMillan has a busy weekend happening. After playing last night at the Bronte Sports Kitchen in Oakville, he’ll be spending the rest of the weekend playing closer to home.

Tonight, from 6pm to 9:30, MacMillan plays at the Insomnia Trattoria and Wine Bar, on Scottsdale Drive.

“I have performing there for 8 years,” says MacMillan. “Friday night will be an intimate solo show. This restaurant is an incredible hidden gem in Guelph with great cuisine and the warmest of staff. It’s the perfect place for date nights or gatherings. The music is usually all over the map genre wise with a focus on acoustic blues throughout the evening. Reserve in advance as this restaurant can fill up quickly.”

On Saturday night, the Kent MacMillan Band, which also includes Scott Fitzpatrick and Josh Broadbent, plays the sip Club from 10pm to close.

“It will be my birthday show with a Halloween theme at one of Guelph’s top music clubs,” he notes.

The band promises to deliver a wide range of music.

“This will be a rocking show featuring a mix of blues, alt-country and classic rock,” MacMillan explains. “Lately the sets have been heavy on Dire Straits, Bruce Cockburn, JJ Cale and some classic 80’s music.”

As if there wasn’t enough for MacMillan to celebrate this week, it’s also the 25th anniversary of his move here from Toronto in 1994. He’s been celebrating this milestone of his years living and playing music in Guelph with a series of shows at The Cornerstone, including a show on Sunday from 8:30 to 11pm.

“Sunday is the 4th installment of my 25th anniversary show. It’s a solo acoustic performance where I will be playing whatever comes to mind,” MacMillan says. “Generally you get to hear some original music from my last 3 albums plus a scattering of music from my soon to be released album. You can also hear a mix of Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, John Prine and acoustic blues.”

Kent MacMillan solo on Friday and Sunday, and with the Kent MacMillan Band on Saturday. These are some great opportunities to see, and celebrate with, a talented musician playing some great music!
